10 Tips to fight Excessive Post Competition Weight Gain!

Being that this is my first competition I have been stressing about what will happen to my body after the show.  I hear all these terrible stories of women gaining a large amount of weight, which I can't let happen or I will be one depressed woman.  I started to research what to do after the competition to ensure that I won't become a beached whale after the show.   My husband made a comment the other day, he said "if you can't maintain your HEALTHY weight, like you were before this whole competition, then this competition has hurt you more than helped you."  He was totally right.   I have an addiction to a healthy lifestyle and a solid and fit body!

I know that the week after my competition I will probably have one crazy meal or two as a reward, but I WILL NOT let myself create a lifestyle full of unhealthy food. I am going to, in a way, do everything in reverse.  Right after the competition I am going to go back to what my diet was 4 weeks before the competition and do things in reverse.   This will help my metabolism amp back up again, because of the diet that I have been on I am pretty sure my metabolism is no where near what it was months prior.

For those of you wondering about ways to conquer the possibility of an excessive amount of weight gain, I got the following information from here and here.  Feel free to check out those links!

I took tidbits from each article, I plan on doing all of these to conquer the possibility of excessive weight gain post competition!

1.  Avoid binging for periods longer than 24 hrs after the competition

2.  Use a sunless tanning moisturizer or go for regular spray tans.  As your competition tan fades, you will appear “softer”.  A healthy glow can do wonders for your self-esteem.

3.  Drink lots of water

4.  Continue strength training

5.  Ensure you are incorporating HIIT training into your cardiovascular training regime at least 3 times a week for 20 min a session.  HIIT burns twice the fat in half the time.

6.  Enjoy in moderation.  A dessert or treat once in the blue moon is acceptable.

7.  Do not neglect fruits and vegetables.

8.  Return to your pre-contest meal plan as it was approximately four weeks out, as soon as possible.

9.  Avoid post contest weight gain greater than 5 to 10 pounds for a female and 15 to 20 pounds for male.

10. Don’t weigh yourself daily and do not over-analyze your body in the mirror everyday.  As my mom always says, “true beauty is something you cannot see in a mirror.”

I hope that this helps some of my fellow competitors!

You know you are in Prep when you....

  • Trip down the stairs way more than normal.
  • Go shopping for a few things, come out with none of which you went in for.

  • Have at least three difference flavors of gum in your purse.

  • Carry around hot sauce.

  • Stink up the office with your egg whites every morning, then your tuna at lunch.

  • Have to debate with yourself regarding whether to even try to do your hair in the morning.

  • Have a bigger workout wardrobe than all of your others combined!

  • Consider a rice cake actually good!

  • Up your earring collection, your ears show a lot more when your hair is always in a ponytail.
  • Are chained to your water bottle!

  • Have a purse that sounds like some sort of pharmacy with all of the fish oil, flaxseed, vitamin B12, etc you are carrying around.
  • Sometimes honestly feel like you could go freaking "coo coo for cocoa puffs, " when you probably don't even really like them.
  • Have a sheer hate for the grocery store, and are constantly looking at the nutritional information of yummy treats with the hope that magically you will find one with no fat and low carb.
  • Keep the baggie and Tupperware companies in business!
  • Have dishes that go from the dishwasher to the table, and your cupboards are always empty.
  • Constantly flex and feel your tummy fat.
  • Find yourself in the laxative section of Walmart when you haven't been eating enough greens, sorry gross one!
  • And lastly when...  The Gym front desk guy tells you "there might be a cot in the back, you're here more than I am."
Just some humor for the day!
