Fun Tips

When starting any new workout help motivate yourself by doing the following:

Take Before Pictures (and after pictures each month)
It is so important to visually see the changes that are occurring in your body verses just looking at the scale everyday.

Take Measurements
There are so many different changes that will occur to your entire body over the course of your workout, a lot of which you may not be able to visually see in your pictures, or realize by hopping on the scale.  It is important to see the changes in your measurements to keep you motivated if you are not getting the results you desire on a scale or in your pictures.  Please also keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat, so even though you may not be loosing weight, you could still be loosing inches.  (Example: I have lost inches in my thighs, but haven't lost any weight, if I hadn't taken my measurements when I first started my workout routine I wouldn't have even noticed the difference and probably would have been unhappy.)

Below is  a list of areas you should measure:
  •  Bust: Don't squish yourself -- measure all the way around your bust and back right at your nipple line, and make sure the tape measure is not lower.

  • Chest: Measure under your breasts but as high up as you can go, keeping the tape measure parallel to this line when you reach it around your back.

  • Waist: Measure wherever it is the smallest (if you have "no waist" go around yourself right at the navel line).

  • Hips: Measure at the very biggest part -- even if that is so low that you are almost on the top of your thighs.

  • Midway: Measure midway between the very biggest part of your hips and your waist.

  • Thighs: Measure wherever they are the biggest.

  • Knees: Measure right above the knee.

  • Calves: Measure wherever they are the biggest.

  • Upper arm: Measure wherever they are biggest above your elbows.

  • Forearms: Measure wherever they are biggest below your elbows.

Buy Cute New Workout Attire
It may sound dumb, but when I workout I like to look cute, well my outfit at least.  Buy tight fitting clothes so you are able to see your body in the mirrors while you are working out, like spandex, etc.  If you run on the treadmill, it may be best to buy high quality spandex so you don't feel like you are jiggling around as much.  Anyone can feel fat while running if they feel like they are jiggling.
Shoes are so important, if you have uncomfortable shoes you are not going to be able to workout to your full potential.

Update your Music!
Music is a big motivator, it can affect ones heart rate by simply listening to it.  It can motivate you, calm you down, get you excited, etc.  Use upbeat music when you are working out, keep yourself motivated.

Food is Fuel
Eating healthy and providing your body fuel to workout is the key to being fit.  If you are trying to starve yourself and workout, your body has a tendency to hold on to food and store it because it feels as though you are starving.  Eat a good healthy breakfast, a healthy snack, lunch, a healthy snack, and dinner.   Keep your metabolism working throughout the day.  Never let your body starve.  You may feel skinnier, but you will not lose weight as quickly because anything you do eat will eventually be stored if your metabolism has slowed down.  Also keep in mind that when your body is starving it is going to feed off the muscle that you have worked so hard to obtain.  Eating is key, but eating healthy is the magic potion.
